The school provides the children with a wealth of opportunity to learn, create, explore, play, discover, imagine and use of all their senses to develop their abilities.
As soon as they start a session, children self register by placing their name on the board plus choosing which area they will take responsibility for as a toy monitor. Children then have free access to a variety or resources and toys both indoors and outside and will initiate their own play and learning with adult support. They are able to paint, cut, stick, make collages, play in sand or water, use the computer, experiment with malleable materials such as playdough, make jigsaws, thread, build with various resources such as duplo, stickle bricks, dress up and role play plus use their imagination with many different small world toys amongst many other toys and resources.
Outdoors children have further equipment available including the climbing frame, slide, roundabout, sit and ride toys, balls, bats, hoops plus similar resources to indoors.
Snacks are provided mid session and children have a choice of a variety of fresh/dried fruits, vegetables, different varieties of breads with spreads or dips. Milk and water are offered as drinks, although water is available all day through a water dispenser. Children are encouraged to consider their health and hygiene through discussions about healthy eating and the necessity of hand washing.
Adult initiated activities also take place in the form of small or large group work. Children will participate in group table games, story time, circle time, ring games, dancing, musical instruments, gardening, art and craft when other aspects of the Early Learning Goals are covered.
During all this time the adults provide the necessary support to enhance the children's learning.
