Head Start Nursery School operates an Equal Opportunities Policy and therefore accepts all children in
Ramsey and the locality depending on their age (between 2 and 5 years)and the availability of spaces.
A prospectus is sent upon request and the address of the Head Start Nursery School
website, www.headstart-nurseryschool.com is provided for access to further
information. Hard copies of policies and procedures are also available.
A school visit is then arranged for the both parents/carers and the child to determine
whether the school can provide the learning environment that will match the needs of
the child. Should the school have a full enrolment at that time, the child’s name will
be placed on a waiting list.
The parents/carers complete the registration form with all relevant information to be
kept at the school. The number of required sessions is established and an entry date
finalised.
Prior to the start date an induction visit is arranged for the child, when the parent can
leave him/her for a short period of time, once settled, in order that staff and other
children have the opportunity to establish an intitial relationship and the child can
explore the surroundings. Further visits can be arranged in order to ensure that the child
will have a happy and settled entry.
On the start date both parents/carers and the child are given much support and
encouragement that the new experience will be both positive and rewarding. Children
can bring along a favourite toy or a comforter to give them security. Parents can remain
at the school until they are confident that the child is settled. Parents can contact staff at
any time during the session if they have any concerns.
Should the child not settle, staff will work together with the parents and implement a
workable strategy for ensuring that the child does become happy and enjoy the session.
In the event that a child or his parents/carers do not find that Head Start can provide the
education for their needs, a meeting will take place between the Head Teacher and the
parents and appropriate measures undertaken.
