It is the responsibility of parents/carers to provide lunches for their child which should be sent in an appropriate named containers. If drinks are to be supplied separately, they should also be named.
It is advisable to provide an ice-pack within the container to ensure that the food remains fresh during the morning. This is particularly of importance during hot weather.
Whilst it is parental choice to provide the lunch, it is preferred that children are provided with a healthy diet which should include some fruit or vegetables, Sandwiches or bread type products including sausage rolls. It is recommended that if crisps, yoghurts, fromage frais and other dairy products are included, they should be of the low fat variety.
It is not acceptable to provide your child with any hard sweets or lollies as they could choke. Chocolate bars should only be used when no other suitable alternative is available.
If you are providing choices for your child, could you please make the staff aware, either by informing them in the morning or leaving a note in the container.
Finally, lunchtime should be a pleasant social time for your child, so the more they are involved in choosing and preparing their lunch, the more likely they are to eat it. Please consult with them as to what they would like to eat, suggesting the healthy options.
