January 2011continued

3. In the next few weeks, Tesco will once again be introducing vouchers for schools, can I thank every one who collected them for us last year, we gained gardening equipment and foam bricks. Vouchers today can be redeemed for toys so the more we collect the more we can order. Sainsbury will be also issuing vouchers so please get family and friends to take whatever is going.

4. Please remember Robbie and Rosie the Bear, who would really like to leave the school and have great adventures. In the past Robbie has been to Egypt and Australia but of late he has just sat on the
cupboard, poor Rosie has been sat around for a long time. We are considering sending our bears home on a weekly basis to enjoy a weekend away from the school, more details in the next newsletter.

5. I would just like to remind you that we have a lending library for Oxford Reading Tree books (kipper books). This scheme of books is widely used by all schools as the starting point of early reading. We use them on a daily basis and the children become aware of the characters and will recognise or read some of the words. By becoming involved in the library will enable your child to chose a book to look at/read with you at home as they will do once they start school. There is a refundable fee of £5.00 which is obviously set to cover any loss of the book. Please speak to a member of staff if you would like to take up this option.

6. Please keep us updated about contact numbers if you change your phone or address. It is very
important that we are able to make contact in the event of an emergency.

7. Please remember that staff are always available to discuss your child’s progress and development. We operate a key person system and a list of who your child’s key worker is, is on the notice board. Staff are in the process of sending files home for you to view and make comment.

A Date for your Diary

During the week beginning Monday 14th March, we will be performing our Spring Concert. Every other year, we support Comic Relief which is on Friday 18th March and so we will be charging an entry fee of £1 which will be collected and donated to this charity. More information and times and dates in next newsletter.

Microwave Oven

We do have a microwave oven at Head Start which means that we can warm up prepared meals. If your child is staying for lunch and you would like them to have some hot food, please send in a microwaveable dish with a portion of food and leave the rest to us. Some parents are already taking advantage of this and so are the staff!!!

Please can you complete the grid below and return as soon as possible so that we can organise staffing for these weeks. Please place a tick in the sessions that your child will attend.
