Workplace

All children are supervised by staff at all times.
Whenever children are on the premises, a minimum of two adults will be in attendance.
The workplace is kept in a clean and tidy state, all rubbish is disposed of as soon as possible, faulty or broken equipment repaired or replaced according to procedure.
All spillages to be cleared immediately.
Drinking vessels, kitchen equipment and toys to be sterilised regularly.
All adults to be aware at all times that they are working with young children who may not be as aware of potential hazards.
Outside activities are supervised at all times with the appropriate staffing ratios in place.
Staff should always consider where they are placing hot drinks/food etc. and ensure that they are out of the reach of the children.

Clothing
All staff to wear clothing appropriate for their work. Tabards or aprons are available for messy work/play. Gloves are available to be worn when dealing with cleaning materialsand spillages.
Inappropriate jewellery should not be worn as this could lead to an injury to a child or other member of staff.
Children should also be dressed appropriately, in a way which does not restrict their movements or does harm to others and is suitable for the weather conditions. Aprons are provided for messy play/activities.
It is advisable that children do not wear jewellery, in the case where they have pierced ears only studs should be worn.

Security
All glass panes are made of safety glass and any low level glass window is covered with a special safety film as an additional precaution.
Doors are secured during session times with special fire locks at adult height. Visitors can only gain admittance according to the Visitor Procedure.
Children can only leave the school with authorised adults. Staff must be informed of any changes to normal arrangements and the appropriate form needs to be completed.
All outside gates will be secured before children leave the building to play outdoors.
Any adult who has not been cleared by CRB cannot be left alone with a child. This restriction applies to students on placement.
All staff should ensure at all times that they can be observed by another member of staff.

Food Handling
Children and staff to wash hands before preparation or eating food.
Any food items to be stored appropriately.
Basic Food Hygiene training made available to staff.

Manual Handling
Staff and children must never lift or move anything which is too heavy, they must always seek help.
Always lift, lower, push, pull or carry in the correct manner and avoid twisting thebody.

Smoking
Smoking is strictly not permitted on the premises or surrounding outside area.
