February 2011

 February 2011

Dear Parent/Carer,

Well January is gone and before you know it March will be here with our Spring Concert. Just to remind you that it is the Chinese New Year on 3rd February, the year of the rabbit and we will be celebrating the event with the children. Pancake Day (Shrove Tuesday) falls on 8th March and children will be able to enjoy the event with different tastes of pancakes.

SPRING CONCERT
As you know, we like to arrange something every term and feel that it is important that children have an opportunity to perform. Many of them only have that first experience at Christmas and so it is good that they should have a further opportunity to gain confidence in performing. This year, the Spring Concert will take place on Tuesday 15th, Wednesday 16th and Thursday 17th March at 11.30a.m. I may need to swap some sessions around so that all the children will have an opportunity to perform but I will speak to you personally if it affects you. Please congregate at the back door and I will let everyone in at the same time so that we alleviate nervousness. If your child becomes upset by seeing you, would you please give us the opportunity in the first instance to settle them, obviously if we cannot succeed, than your child will join you but if we get it right than all the children will perform. Children will need to be dressed in red as our concert is in aid of Red Nose Day. I will be making a charge of £1 per person and all monies collected will go to Comic Relief.

Pleas
There are always pleas, so here we go!
1. Please can you try to ensure that your child’s clothes and lunch boxes are named. We do have problems with identifying clothing, in particular if they are the uniform.

2. Please can I ask you to make payment of your fees before the end of each month unless you have come to another arrangement with me. The policy of Head Start is not to accept children the following month if their fees have not been paid.

3. Please can you remember Robbie and Rosie the bear who have not been on holiday for a very long time.

4. Please can you collect vouchers for schools. Sainsbury and Tesco should shortly be releasing them.

Please remember we have a lending library for the Oxford Reading Tree Scheme. The children enjoy reading these books and would probably welcome the opportunity to take them home. Please speak to a member of staff if you are interested.

Please can I remind you that the continuous checking of hair for nits is the best way to prevent infestation. It is recommended that your child’s hair should be checked twice a week and immediate action taken if any head lice or nits have been found. It is also helpful if you can inform us so that we know if it a single incident or there are several cases.

Grant term

If your child turns three before the end of March, he/she will be entitled to the grant in the summer term. If you would like to consider increasing sessions then, can you speak to a member of staff as we are getting quite full.

Staff are always available to discuss your child’s progress, please talk to the key person, a list is on the notice board in the entrance hall. Staff have been sending files home with a summative report from the Autumn Term. It is important that you read it and sign and date the parent area with any comments you would like to make.
