In the event of a fire or accident, a whistle will be blown and the children and staff will line up at the nearest emergency exit.
The senior member of staff will collect the register while the other members of staff will evacuate the building in a quiet and orderly fashion. A sweep will be undertaken of the whole building to ensure that no-one is left behind.
Depending on the exit used, children will be lined up in the garden or the adjacent car park and a roll call will be taken. Should any person be missing, the senior member of staff will make the decision as to whether to re-enter the building to undertake a search of the premises.
Staff and children should then move quickly to the Rainbow Surgery or Community Room. A member of staff should alert the emergency services.
Once the children are in a safe and secure place, a member of staff should contact parents/carers.
The situation will be recorded in the incident log and a detailed report written.
An emergency staff meeting will be held to review all fire precautions and the procedure and improvements will be made where necessary.
